Private market investment strategies

A starting point for limited partners evaluating private market exposure. Understand what a strategy owns, how a transaction works and which risks need closer scrutiny before discussing a specific manager.

Pre-IPO & secondary strategies

Pre-IPO describes investment in a company before a potential public listing. A secondary transaction involves buying an existing holding rather than subscribing for newly issued securities. The concepts can overlap, but they are not interchangeable. Explore the pre-IPO and secondaries guide for transaction structures, risks and diligence questions.

Evaluate the exposure, not just the label

Start with the underlying asset: direct company shares, an interest in a vehicle, or an existing fund interest. Then assess the investment horizon, valuation basis, information rights, concentration, fees and restrictions on transferring or exiting the investment. A strategy label alone does not establish suitability.

From research to a confidential conversation

Discuss your strategy preferences, investment horizon and diligence requirements with RAISE. Any subsequent manager introduction would require eligibility checks, applicable regulatory review and the manager's consent. A conversation does not guarantee an introduction or access to an investment.

How is this different from the RAISE LP database?

This section helps LPs understand investment strategies. The LP database is a tool for GPs researching limited partners and managing fundraising.
